When we look back at our school years as adults, why do we remember only one of the many teachers who have entered our lives or a few if we are lucky? Have you ever thought about that? If we are a good teacher and we can cause children to smile, what is the secret?

In my opinion, teachers play a major role in this developmental period on the children’s lives. The relationship between the teacher and the child can affect the development of a child’s educational life. It makes the students improve his/her own success in professional life. It is seen that the motivation of these students is higher than other students and try to present better performance and they are more willing to learn knowledge. Teacher’s attitude affects students’ personality, performance and academical success as well. So, firstly, I would like to explain about using developmentally effective approaches to the teacher to connect with children.

Characteristic Features;

-A teacher should be knowledgeable about child mental health. If there is a problem with the child, it should intervene immediately and inform the family and make the necessary guidance. Before the age of the primary school, there are many lucky children whose problems have been identified and received the necessary interventions and services thanks to the sensitive and knowledgeable kindergarten teacher.

-The teacher should treat all children equally. Children can easily recognize discrimination applied. This discrimination can cause wounds that are difficult to make up from the child’s world.

-The teacher must listen to every child. This should apply not only to the kindergarten teacher but to every adult in the child’s life. I think the biggest secret of the teachers who provide attention and attention in their class is to listen to the children.

-The teacher should be solution-oriented in case of any problem. Let’s say a child inflicted violence on another child in the classroom. The teacher should discuss the violent child with his family and approach the family with a solution-oriented approach by establishing a sentence like “we need to do something to talk about it”.

-The teacher must treat each child consistently every time. Because of the consistency in behaviors, also the class culture affects. If the behavior of pushing a friend is not tolerated by the teacher, this should remain with the same attitude. If one day this behavior is not tolerated and the same behavior is ignored after one week, this inconsistency can cause serious problems in the classroom.

-The teacher should be inclined to collaborate with other educators when necessary. Sometimes a child may need a support educator, language development specialist, educational counselor. An effective kindergarten teacher should be able to cooperate with other professionals when necessary and involve the family in education at all times through objective assessments.

-The teacher should always have a positive attitude towards the children. The fact that the teacher has a positive attitude in general helps children to follow positive attitudes towards events.

-The preschool teacher must be absolutely creative. There are very creative teachers in their professional lives, who can do a lot of learning activities from a plastic plate and make their bodies used as educational materials. The creativity of a kindergarten teacher means free children.

-Children like to have fun, even everyone likes to have fun so teachers should be fun. It is only fun to turn the energy of preschool education children into positive action.

-The teacher should be open to new teaching approaches. It is a valid feature for all teachers regardless of their branch. It is the foundation of a successful teacher to follow new approaches, to constantly renew itself, to transfer the new learned to the applications.

-The teacher can configure the program according to the learning speed of the child. There is no single child model in the world. Every child is special and different. The learning speed and style of each child is different. Some children learn very quickly, while some children learn with many repetitions. A qualified kindergarten teacher knows the learning speed of children and configures their programs accordingly.

-It is important to be a teacher who can reveal the child’s abilities. Perhaps this may be directly proportional to the teacher’s experience.

-In our education system, teachers who prefer rewards instead of punishment are required as a method of changing behavior. Even though we don’t say how long they are today, some systems and teachers impose fines. The teacher who tries to change the behavior by rewarding positive behaviors against problematic behaviors is always more successful. It is easier for the child to transfer the reinforced positive behavior to life.

-A teacher is the leader of the class. For this reason, the kindergarten teacher should have good leadership qualities and be able to protect the entire group and protect their rights in crises.

-The teacher should be a good role model every time. Reflecting his/her feelings, tone of voice, personal care, attitude towards other adults, and speaking style should be a good role model with all its features.
